Alim, is among the San Diego Section's elite with more than 100 wins (148-46-2). He's coached at Sweetwater, Eastlake and Otay Ranch, winning section titles in 1983-84.

His Sweetwater teams from 1983 to 1985 still hold the section record with 37 straight wins, but Alim had made an appearance in the record book well before that.

How good of an athlete was Alim? Good enough to be invited to try out for the San Francisco Giants in 1970 and four years later to make a bid to play for the Green Bay Packers.

“Those were great experiences, but I knew I had to get back to school (San Diego State) and get my education,” Alim said.

He quickly turned to coaching and molded Sweetwater into the state's dominant team for a few years with players like Terry Rodgers, Ronnie Cortell and the Saleaumua brothers.
